Phil Gilardi, Jr. along with his uncle, Dan Sullivan, is proud to be carrying on the Gilardi tradition with Philly G's. The restaurant will be celebrating its 5 Year anniversary come this August. Philly is the fourth generation of Gilardi's to continue the family recipes of his great-grandmother, Sophie and grandmother, Angie Gilardi along with regional favorites of his own.
Earlier this week my wife and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Philly G's in Vernon Hills. This newly renovated restaurant serves up some of the best Italian cuisine in the neighborhood. The restaurant has the warmth and charm of an Italian nonna's home with stucco walls and intimate dining rooms which are available for private family or corporate dinners.
We started the evening with a bottle of Righetti Valpolicella 2004. We began our dinner with fried calamari, a house specialty and Bruschetta, toasted Italian bread topped with fresh tomatoes, red onions, garlic and fresh basil, all tossed with imported olive oil. Needless to say, we were stuffed even our entrees arrived. My wife ordered the skirt steak which is marinated in Philly's special marinade, char grilled and served with crispy Vadalia onions and vesuvio potatoes. The steak was grilled to perfection and melted in your mouth. I ordered the Parmigiana Crusted Salmon, which is an Atlantic salmon fillet baked with breadcrumbs, butter, fresh basil, and parmigiana cheese, served over a bed of spinach fettuccine sauteed in a light butter and garlic sauce. The flavor combination was delicious and I savored every bite. Philly stopped by with a small sampling of his shrimp Almalfi, which are jumbo shrimp lightly breaded with Panko breadcrumbs, pan fried, the tossed in a creamy chili garlic sauce and served over spaghetti sauteed with imported olive oil and roasted garlic. I am not a fan of shrimp, but I will definitely order these the next time I return. We ended our meal with Seven Layer Chocolate Cake. The cake is filled with a layer of chocolate mousse and a layer of chocolate butter cake topped with chocolate ganache. It was a chocolate lovers delight!!!!
The service was superb, the food outstanding and the experience unforgettable!
